Question: “Can you name the three cities that have had two teams reaching both the semi-final of the European Cup AND Uefa Cup/Inter Cities Fairs Cup….?”

Answer: Rather than London, Glasgow, Budapest, Dundee, Belgrade, Milan, Bucharest, Madrid etc etc: the three are Milan, Madrid and DUNDEE.

I think this gives a true list of the elite and the city of Dundee is part of a much smaller elite. I took the facts from the European Cup rather than the Champions League as the former was a competition for the Champions of the domestic leagues — the Champions League is no such competition. Likewise, the Inter-cities Fairs Cup was a competition based upon one team per city in the competition. The old UEFA Cup – before the league nonsense and the second rate nature of failing teams from the Champions League entered that ‘now’ devalued competition — was indeed a quality competition.

Firstly, a champion of a domestic competition entered the European Cup as a Champion and therefore a team that reaches the semi-final are with other champions — Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan clearly recognised throughout Europe as true Champions. Dundee and Dundee United were also quality Champions. They both deserved to be part of that elite.

Secondly, in the ‘good-old-days’ teams that would have been runner’s up to the team in the European Cup would play in the Uefa Cup/Inter Cities Fairs Cup and be most likely a quality side in some regard. They would be a consistent team or an up-and-coming team and just short of Champion material. Therefore teams reaching the semi-final of this European competition would be facing teams of ‘equal’ or similar quality to themselves. This elite includes the cities of Milan, Madrid and DUNDEE.

So, my question – “Can you name the three cities that have had two teams reaching both the semi-final of the European Cup AND Uefa Cup/Inter Cities Fairs Cup….?”, requires cities and teams with two distinct qualities — to be a Champion of a domestic league and the ability when not champions to complete at the next highest level in Europe and reach the semi-finals of EACH competition. Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Dundee and Dundee United have done just that – by 1987!

Teams Dundee United met in 1986-87 Uefa Cup:-

First Round – RC Lens (France)
Second Round – Universitatea Craiova (Romania)
Third Round – NK Hajduk Split (now Croatia – then part of Yugoslavia)
Quarter Final – FC Barcelona (Spain)
Semi Final – Borussia Monchengladbach (West Germany)
Final IFK – Goteborg (Sweden)

These teams also beat the following in that Uefa Cup:-

IFK Goteborg beat SK Sigma Olomouc, BSV Brandenburg (East Germany), KAA Gent (Belgium), FC Internazionale or Inter Milan (Italy), FC Tirol Innsbruck (Austria)

Borussia Monchengladbach beat FK Partizan (Yugoslavia) and Feyenoord (Holland), Glasgow Rangers (Scotland) and Vitória Guimarães (Portugal)

Barcelona beat Flamurtari Vlora (Albania), Sporting Lisbon (Portugal) and Bayer Uerdingen (Germany)

NK Hajduk Split beat OFI Crete FC (Greece) and PFC Botev Plovdiv (Bulgaria)

Universitatea Craiova beat Galatasaray SK (Turkey)

Similar teams such as Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and AZ Alkmaar have made the United form of impact in the Uefa Cup.

Budapest Ferihegy International Airport, which has 3 passenger terminals: Ferihegy 1, which tends to serve the many discount airlines now flying to and from Budapest, Ferihegy 2/A and Ferihegy 2/B. Terminal 2/C is planned to be built.

“Red Bull Air Race 2007″, San Diego, California Video Cool

The new Communist government considered the buildings like the Buda Castle symbols of the former regime, and during the 1950s the palace was gutted and all the interiors were destroyed.

The Red Bull World Series air races for 2007 are in places like Abu Dhabi, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, London, Budapest, and THIS weekend they’re here in beautiful San Diego, California!

“Taking Flying to the Next Level”

“The Red Bull Air Race is an exciting competition in which the world’s most talented pilots are up against each other in a race based on speed, precision and skill.

“The competition features a dynamic discipline of flying, called ‘air racing’ where the objective is to navigate a challenging race course in the sky, in the fastest possible time. Flying individually against the clock, the pilots have to execute tight turns through a slalom course consisting of specially designed pylons, known as ‘Air Gates’. They compete in knockout rounds with the two fastest pilots going head to head in the final.

“The Air Race is not just about speed – precision is crucial to success because any mistakes incur penalty points which are then added to the pilot’s time. Eleven pilots took part in eight races in the 2006 World Series where American, Kirby Chambliss was crowned World Champion at the final in Perth, Australia.
